"Hurry, look out the window!" the professor yelled as he rushed up stairs. I peered outside and there it was: One big (dare I say huge?) black bear had come to eat his lunch in our front yard which is secluded and hidden from the road (we actually live on a one-way path which does have a lot of pedestrian traffic with folks walking their dogs and taking a leisurely walk along the lake. ) Anyway, our visitor proceeded to tear open the garbage sack he had scavanged from our neighbor and devoured what was left from an old carton of sour cream (Yuck!). He stuck his nose into it and licked away until it was wiped clean. Not sure what else was in the sack but the garbage odor wafted through the window and I realized that we would have to clean up the mess once our unexpected and somewhat unwanted visitor moved on - grrr. Took a few pictures to share below. He appears to have become a regular in the neighborhood and we've been thinking about naming him. (so much more personal than yelling, Hey! That bear is back. ).
